Huadu District, located in northern Guangzhou, is an important transport hub. This is a place suitable for working and living and a modern district featuring hills, rivers and green lands. It has recreation and living facilities of international level. The railway artery of China, the Beijing-Guangzhou railway, goes through the district. Huadu port, a State Grade 2 port, can provide services for 1,000-ton cargo ships heading directly to Hong Kong and Macao.

Currently, Huadu has two economic development "engines": the auto industry and airport economy, and three major industrial clusters: the auto, leather and jewelry industry clusters. The development of a 100-square-kilometer airport economy zone has been placed on the agenda, and a provincial auto industry base has been established. The Shiling Town of Huadu has become China's largest leather industry base; with most of its enterprises being privately owned. The town's annual output value exceeds RMB10 billion. 86 renowned domestic and foreign enterprises have settled in the Huadu Jewelry Industrial Park. In the past three years, both the average annual growths of output value and export value of jewelry products were over 50%. The optimization and upgrading of the industrial structure has brought great changes to Huadu's economy and is also a strong driving force to its real estate market.

The district was established as a county in the Qing Dynasty (1644–1911). It was recognized as a city in 1993, and in 2000, it became an attached suburban district of Guangzhou.
Guangzhou New Baiyun International Airport is located at the border between Baiyun District and Huadu District of Guangzhou City. Furthermore, the center of Huadu District is 6km far from Guangzhou New Baiyun International Airport, taking around 10 minutes to get there by car.
Railway Transportation: Guangzhou North Railway Station is located in Xinhua Town, Huadu District, Guangzhou, through which every railway station of the whole country can be reached. Besides, Guangzhou Railway Container Joint Center to be constructed will be situated in Shiling Town of Huadu District with annual cargo tonnage of 17 million tons, and it is also the largest logistics center project planned in South China Region.
Leather Industry
Over the years, great efforts have been made to boost a powerful leather industry. The first one is to take full advantage of the “The capital of leather and leather products of China” to attract investment; the second is to attract quality enterprises and famous brand. Meanwhile, priority will be given to “Shiling International Leather Center” to enlarge its scale and functions. More than 2,800 leather enterprises have made their presence there. The Leather and Leather Products Festival has been successfully held for the past four years. Now the daily transaction amount has exceeded 20 million RMB. Now multi-national companies from Japan, Korea, Italy, France and Pakistan have settled down in Huadu. The competitive ability and product quality of both, multi-national companies and local companies have been apparently improved.
The Jewelry Industry:
The jewelry industry—as a premium trade—has already become one of three major pillar industries. It creates large amount of job opportunities and increases foreign currency income and tax revenue. To date, there are more than 60 enterprises within the Huadu Jewelry Industrial Park.
